Anyone else think that today's release with the associated comments from the Big Japanese handset vendors and IDO/DDI are a "shot over the bow" at the Koreans? The Korean press seems to have been belaboring the "unfair" royalty levels that Qualcomm was taking from those poor little Korean companies who were just trying to make a buck. Doesn't seem like any of the Japanese companies feel the same way (at least not publicly...), in fact, their comments verge on being giddy over the relationship. I'm thinking these were released for two reasons... one, to give DOCOMO a kick in the pants (notice the prominence of the data rates, especially in comparison to the i-mode press from the last few weeks), and two, to get the Koreans off the royalty shtick.
