This method of installation cannot be oversold. Although you have a good deal of reading to do before developing truly useful *nix skills, having a Linux geek install is the best way to install Linux.

Most people are close to a Linux User Group geographically. They stage periodic 'installfests' (kinda like Moonie weddings) at computer shows and elsewhere. The cost of handing cookies to a geek while he installs the *nix operating environment on your PC is the best deal going in North America.
