bill,

I think he is still an employee of First Union although they could be keeping him on in some sort of consulting capacity. I don't know the whole story but reading between the lines I think that when the Serial Diluter's hatchetmen started combing thru the old Wheat First they told Don he would have to work X amount of hours and move to another city. I think he told them no thanks and stepped down until the howl from some of the institutional clients caused them to rethink their decision.

Apparently the retail sales force has had issues with him though because he occasionally turns bearish and that is a no-no as Gail Dudack or Chuck Clough could attest to.

Then FTU bought Everen and they wanted to push Rao Chalsani or whatever his name into the spotlight so that was another issue. Don just moved to Nashville I think (I am unfamiliar with geography west of the Hudson River) to be closer to his family. He has been known to throw up slides of his grandkids over the years so at least his priorities are straight.

I sort of choked when I saw Fleck putting up Dons' email address on the Rap but it certainly seems like he likes the interaction with all you people out there and has even incorporated several new indicators into his work that his new internet buddies have clued him onto. I would think that even after he is officially retired he could run Hays.com out of his bedroom and keep chewing the fat with all of us. Perhaps soon he can do quarterly videoconferences over the net with all of us too.
