Could part of the new paradigm be that some companies generate significant cash flow that they no longer need to go to the capital markets to get such? Thus, could it be that they are not bothered by higher rates except for other companies might have to borrow to buy their products?

Then, could these products they make be SO IMPORTANT for the companies to stay competitive that they will PAY ANYTHING (within reason of course) for the technology? Perhaps even cut their purchases in other areas just so they can buy the required technology to stay competitive?

Wouldn't MSFT Windows98 and Office2000 fit that mold pretty well?

Could we see it where HWP and other big companies that had out-sourced most of their IC foundry needs now find that they need to buy their own fabs again so they can get a guaranteed supply of chips? Again, if true, they will have to pay through the nose to get the semiconductor capital equipment to build these fabs.

Hmmm....
