Claude, thanks again for the information. Did you see that news bit about germanium minimizing the tarnishing of silver? I think that if results are as reported, the demand for silver could go crazy. What do you think?

Yes. Of course, there are other plays like SIL, CDE, HL and SSC...
I follow them but don't like them as much.
HL is only 25% silver.
CDE is OK, but still only 55-60% silver.

Agree with your concern that HL and CDE are not the best ways to play silver.
I did a little calculation based on 1999 AU/AG production at current prices,
and both were over 50% revenues from silver (HL>CDE):

Price Hecla Value Percent CDE Value Percent
----------- ------------------- --------------------
AU 289.400 0.097 28.2 41.4% 0.157 45.4 48.4%
AG 5.200 7.667 39.9 58.6% 9.304 48.4 51.6%
----------- ------------------- --------------------
Total $us68.1 $us93.8

Did they ever get all that litigation cleared up? They had shareholder suits about the mine they had to write off and the government environmental suit...

<<CDE is OK, but still only 55-60% silver.>>

I thought with recent acquitions & shut downs, they were closer to 70%, BWDIK? & according to last thing from the HL I thought they were now around 30-35%.

It should be noted SSC picked up some rather nice older properties in Colorado of late, making thier future a bit less dependent on Pirquitas, though I agree, their situation could be FAR better.

Shouldn't it also be mentioned the amount of silver in some (under conventional wisdom)understood to be "gold plays" - HM & ECO? HM best Nevada gold property also has a fair amount of silver same as ECO.
