my purpose in the example was to show that for the same amount of money an investor with a naked put or a covered call would wind up in the same place. the same is true that long call, short put is the same as long stock and long put, short call is the same as short stock. now i understand that there are different requirements for shorting stocks and shorting options. must wait for uptick to short stock for example.

in any event commissions are not material, 1.75 per contract in some cases. any additional margin money i must place in my account either reduces my debit balance or is invested in treasuries so it is not wasted.

regards
