Chuck,

Re:"chipset revenue"

IMHO they are setting themselves up again for a REPEAT of the K6 debacle.

If you recall Intel offered bundled MB + CPU deals.

With a raw MB/chipset cost of $30 and a coppermine cost in the $40 range they can offer bundled low end solutions in the $200 range and laugh all the way to the bank.

While our team will have to offer the Athlon for $100-120 range to be competitive.

Oh well, c'est la vie.

regards,

Kash

Chuck,

Anyways, I am surprised by what is going on today

Could it have anything to do with minimizing losses on January options? ;^(

Charles Re <<I wish you (or anyone else) said that yesterday.>>

I did say right after the number came out that I was not impressed. If they shipped over a million Athlons (like some rumors) and if ASP was over $260, AMD would have had EPS north of $0.80.

I was very surprised at the strength in the after hour market.

Charles, you knew earnings was going to be way above the consensus, I knew it, and so did most other people on this thread. Earnings was not really an upside surprise compare to what people who were following AMD had in mind.

Since AMD is not really a "buy and hold" stock in most people's eye a lot of people who knew that numbers will blow away the estimates bought only to sell today. I think we will move higher going forward and I do not see a large downside risk with earning estimates being raised as much as they have been.
