Thinking this over a bit, I've probably underestimated the
benefits accrued from the use of DMT in a cable modem.
One would still need a fair amount of equalization, not
as drastic as DSL, but enough to justify the DMT approach,
and it's nice to be able to deal with narrow band interfering
carriers.

There are nonlinearities in cable that don't exist in
DSL or wireless, but they should be mild enough for
DMT to work quite well. I've seen some older standards on
cable modem proposals in Europe with pretty dense
costellations, these would also be sensitive to nonlinearities
in the channel .

A working DMT/OFDM modem is "une usine a gaz", that's for sure :-)
