Mission and Goals
The foundation seeks to advance the
development and growth of online learning
especially distance learning that eliminates
dependence upon face-to-face contact as the
primary context for learning. For more on the

Current Funding Interests
The foundation primarily funds projects to produce digital content for education,
including, but not limited to, multimedia instructional materials and instructional
software. Grants support the design, testing and production of digital materials. The
foundation also supports projects focused on the evaluation of online education in
practice.
The foundation does not support any of the following:

Development or deployment of instructional management systems,
authoring tools, or collaboration technologies
Capital campaigns
Capital improvements to information technology infrastructure,
including, but not limited to, computer labs, networking equipment or
video production facilities
Awards for the benefit of specific individuals
Contributions to general fund drives, annual appeals, or federated
campaigns
Sectarian or religious organizations whose principal activity is for the
benefit of their own members or adherents

Conditions and Restrictions
Foundation awards are made only to registered non-profit organizations. U.S. based
recipients must provide proof of tax exempt status.

Awards are normally paid in installments, conditioned upon the completion of agreed
project milestones. The foundation does not pay indirect costs or overhead charges.

Intellectual property rights in all materials created through any project funded by the
foundation must accrue to the institution or organization hosting the project, not to
individual authors or contributors. Royalties to authors or contributors may be paid at
the option of the recipient institution.

Grant application
The Virtual Education Foundation is currently not accepting applications. Please
