There is virtually no competition between Intel and Lattice ot Altera at this time.

Altera and Intel used to cooperate AND compete in PLD's - Intel served as a foundry for Altera AND second source for some parts - but that ended in 1994 when Intel withdrew from PLds and sold their business to Altera.
