It is also interesting that, while the bid is still at 38, the ask price on after-hours has not been below 39 3/4 (and was at 41 for quite a while). As I understand it there is no out-of-hours options trading, so perhaps less shares being freed up by the short term speculators?

I am hoping that a good portion of options have been closed out and the remainder will be exercised or rolled. I certainly intend to do that with mine.
