Have you maxed your RSP for 1999 or 2000 yet? If not put the proceeds (or they may let you transfer the options) that you can into RSP to shield those dollars from tax. Then buy JDU in your RSP.

Sorry that's the best I can think of. At best you could shield 13500 from taxes.

Hmm? Either I'm reading this wrong or you calculated it wrong. Assuming highest tax bracket, you would end up with about US $24k = CDN $35k. The $16k that you calculated is what you pay in taxes, not what you have left over at the end of the day. (Or did I misread you?)

The calculation is:

US $40k * 0.75 * 0.53 = $16k in taxes. $40-16 = US $24k == CDN $35k.
