Just to cool the enthusiasm, there were no block trades on TSE today (over $100,000) out of 1.2 million traded. Retail investors getting carried away?

Globe says Ballard, Global Thermoelectric steam ahead
Ballard Power Systems Inc BLD
Shares issued 83,799,377 2000-01-20 close $103.6
Friday Jan 21 2000
The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, Jan. 21, edition that Ballard Power Systems gained $18.60 to $103.60 yesterday on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The Globe's Market Movers column reports that it was up and away again yesterday for Ballard and other fuel-cell stocks as investors snapped them up, encouraged by analysts' recommendations posted on the Internet and auto makers' announcements of plans to develop cars powered by the technology. Ballard has now risen 154 per cent so far in 2000. Global Thermoelectric, which closed at $21.05 on the TSE, up $2.20 on the day, is ahead a much more modest 61.9 per cent. The sudden rush into fuel-cell plays is not limited to this side of the border. In the United States, they are going gangbusters as well. Plug Power has surged to $85 (U.S.) from $28.25 at the end of last year, reports The Globe.
