Pedogogue -- an interesting word. Originally from Paidogogus (Gr: a leader of boys) a slave who took boys to school. Then became a teacher, especially one who taught by the rules, and then became "pedant" -- a teacher who obeys and requires obedience to the formal rules. Today, a mildly insulting word for teacher. Just another one of the reasons (besides extreme underpayment) that fewer and fewer able people want to become teachers. Soon to be replaced by the internet.
