A few comments about the conference call...

For 1999, I think Umesh said they sold just under 4 million semiconductor units for DVD (1.2 PC + 2.7 consumer = 3.9 total). I also thought he said only sales of chips for PC market were affected by seasonality. I pretty sure he said 1.8 chips for sold in the second half for the consumer market.

I think he chose not to break down gross margins between DVD and set-top boxes because they have similar ASPs and unit costs. He also said revenues for set-top box chips grew 40% from Q3 to Q4.

A.B. has always been vague, which is one of the reasons that analysts don't care for him, and one of the reasons they have been cautious about hyping this stock. Umesh is a different story -- well respected, straightforward, etc. A.B. is a vison guy and Umesh has vision along with his employees' respect and the ability to make things happen. They apparently have complementary roles.

ZRAN is a direct competitor in DVD decoder chips.

The only thing that was unusual about the CC was the time limit. I have never heard one end because they were out of time. And it was a short call at that.

In 1997, at CES, C-Cube was showing off new products, all behind an eight foot aluminum wall. That "wall" is why you are still asking questions. C-Cube has always limited the amount of info they will give.

VCD was over $19M in sales, this Q, an improvement from over $15M last Q. VCD is seasonal, with November through April being strong month, and the other months are weak.

C-Cube will increase its market share of DVD players when it takes off in China. China is just starting to change over to DVD. From the players currently being made, C-Cube has over a 50% market share. ESS is next in market share, Zoran and LSI have just a few wins. SGS Thomson, Luxsonor, and others are present at an even lower level.
