Fred, I agree IP is definitely critical ingredient. NTAP could be good, although I believe the final network storage will have a combination of Network Attached Storage and Fiber Channel Switched SANs,and the Infiniband role will start to come into focus over the next six months. I know Infiniband will play a big role, but I need to see more experts on this subject posting information, so I can start to get a better picture. Douglas Nordgren on the Fibre Channel Future thread, has been at the I/O conference in Monterey this week, and will be posting the latest information on Infiniband. I would imagine that the plan Sun has with "SunTone" is to have a fabric on the network so any device can be connected to the network and just start working. Such as a hard drive or any network appliance. But control or the grip on the networks will come from the Fibre Channel SANs and the FC switches that will control access to the vast amounts of data online.

Regards,
Joe

Fred, Thanks to you also for mentioning NTAP. Here is a link to Fibre Channel thread, where Douglas Nordgren posted some interesting information on the Infiniband conference that he just attended. Douglas is a very smart gentleman.
I strongly recommend taking a look what Douglas has to say.

P.S. This thread doesn't get too much traffic, so hopefully nobody will mind that this is alittle off topic again for this thread, but it is in line with the latest discussions here about the evolving network.
