Tony,

The real test for Sun will come in 1 to 1.5 years from now. When intel sells IA-64 systems in direct competition with Sun's Ultra Sparc III.
At this point Sun will slowly see their margins erode and get reduced to a software company (wishful thinking, maybe).

Tony - Re: ", HP needs IA-64 to be a success at least as much as Intel does, probably more. Sun said they were taking market share from HP, have been saying that for a while. "

Maybe that's why HP has suddenly become IA-64 "friendly" !

Re: "Also, they said IBM is "confused", as evidenced by their (IBM's) earnings report. "

Sounds like the close toes between IBm and Sun on JAVA are now formally DEAD !

IBM probably feels as good about that comment as Intel did when Weitzen of Gateway blasted Intel.
