SCUMbria - Re: "Cyrix started as a math co-processor company. Their initial FPU implementation was better than Intel's, so it seems unlikely that they did not use it on their 486 designs."

Wrong !

You are WRONG on all counts.

That's sure not my recollection.

Weitek had a very fast (but incompatible) FPU design, but Cyrix's wasn't better than Intel's. It was much cheaper, however.

Oh, God, I've been gone for a year or so and he is STILL here !

Still talking about "Cyrix Innovations".

Didn't anybody bother to tell him that Cyrix no longer exists ?

Shame on you guys. Well, someone has to make up for you slackers.

HEY, Fuchi:

Cyrix couldn't make it ! National bought them and they couldn't make it fly either ! Via bought part of it, and Intel has just today asked the ITC for an injunction against VIA importing chips into the US because they violate Intel Patents. Also to be blocked, motherboards using VIA chips [from VIA and others].

Get with the program !
EVEN AMD is a step up from Cyrix [not to mention that they have managed to somehow continue to exist -- even in spite of Jerry!].
