FWIW (and to kill some time until the CC) - I've been thinking lately that we really need to come up with a new word to replace "fingerprint" when we're talking about the commerce side of IDX's business as opposed to the AFIS, or law enforcement, side of the business. There are just too many negative connotations associated with "fingerprint". And besides, we aren't talking about fingerprints at all when it comes to non-AFIS biometrics.

What do you all think about the word "fingernutia"? (my own invention) - I think it more accurately describes what we're dealing with here and avoids all the negative connotations.

As for other biometrics - voiceprint is still OK (no negative connotations there). Iriscan (or eyeprint?) - sounds OK to me. Palmprint? Hmmmm - I think that is currently used only for law enforcement but couldn't a palmprint also be converted to minutia just like a finger? So, now we could call a palmprint a "palmnutia".

Just my ramblings.

Rick

BTW - I'm thinking more and more that ASCOM is holding us back - supply and demand.

Brad,

How close to Nez Perce County are you? Local call? See Item #2.

Item #2 NEZ PERCE COUNTY (ID) SHERIFF GETS COPS MORE TECHNOLOGY GRANT

The Nez Perce County (Idaho) Sheriff's Office recently received a $269,000 COPS MORE grant that will be used to equip all 14 department vehicles with laptop computers. The funds will also be used to purchase Live Scan fingerprinting and digital mug shot equipment. The laptop computers will allow officers to do their own record checks of state and federal databases.

The Manchester (New Hampshire) Police Department will soon be equipped with Automated Fingerprint Identification System equipment that will allow it to link with the Tri-State AFIS already being used by New Hampshire State Police. The Tri-State system will eventually include the fingerprint records for New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont.
