w molloy: Your choice of language is interesting.

I am obtuse and indulging in sophistry when I simply state a fact?

That fact is that there is no GSM at present in Japan.

Other Time Division type Japanese only systems exist - but as you say yourself - they are not GSM.

On the other hand, the CDMA One which is in increasingly wide use in Japan is CDMA One sanctioned by the CDG for use in Japan and for which Qualcomm provides the ASICs in the phones and software for their use.

Admit that I am sometimes obtuse - not a tech savvy person - just a learner. But don't see stating that there is no GSM in Japan (which is factually accurate) is obtuse.

As for sophistry - naw - that implies intent, and I have no intent to mislead.

"Just the facts" as the character on the old TV show Dragnet used to say.

To the best of my knowledge and belief.

Suggest this is not worth arguing. No substantive disagreement.

w,

<< It doesn't have CDMAone, if you are talking about IS-95 >>

Perhaps you could clarify this a bit further based on the quote below and its associated link. Thanks in advance for doing so?

Does Japan have their own flavor of cdmaOne (J-STD008)?

totaltele.com

"consortium of DDI and Ido Tsushin, which runs Japan's only cdmaOne network, and thus the only network whose users can roam abroad - albeit only in South Korea and the US"
