Could someone please tell me...

I know Hi/fn has compression/encryption on a single
chip... and that this is quite nice to have. But it
doesn't sound to me as if this is such a difficult
technical feat... it would seem that lots of companies
could easily put compression/encryption on a single
chip - but, to my knowledge, they haven't done so.

Why?

Does Hi/fn have some sort of patent that gives then
the exclusive right to put compression/encryption on
a single chip? Is it a much harder technical feat than
I imagine... and Hi/fn is just holding the magical
means of doing so as a closely held secret? Could it
be that competitors are merely ceding the market to Hi/fn?

Thanks,

Rob
