thanks very much for this post, Hisham. well, there it is, for the umpteenth time mr mcginn admitting he made the wrong call on OC-192. but HE didn't just learn of this in January 2000. WE just learned of it. over 2 years the competition built over 30 networks in OC-192. how come he didn't turn the ship upon the 2nd or 3rd or 5th installation in OC-192? one of 2 things, as far as i can see, not necessarily in order of likelihood: a) lu doesn't have the capability to make the product; or b) mr mcginn and the upper echelon are a poor leaders. in either case, nothing's changed as to a) or b) right now. one would imagine they would have changed direction if they could have.
right now optics is, i've heard, only 10-15% of their game. if so, and if the whole problem was OC-192 the earnings disappointment should've been some fraction of 10-15% because OC-192 isn't all of their optics revenues. so, if the fall is greater, it means there were other errors - and - people being consistent - more to come.
