Book of Greenbacks
Chapter LXV111
1. And it came to pass when William, whose surname is Clinton, and his counselors, came to know how great was the expense of the bubble, and how the gold and treasure of the nation were spent, and that much money was needed to pay the artificers.

2. A wise man named Greenspan arose and said, Father William and all ye counselors, behold I had a dream and the spirit of the Lord enlightened me, and revealed unto me what should be done, and if ye will I will recount unto you the heavenly direction.

3. Then William said with a loud voice, Greenspan speak on, and the counsellors said, Amen. He then opened his mouth and spake.

4. Lo, in the depths of the night a new intelligence was given unto me, so that I understood divine sayings. And a voice called unto me, saying, Allen, Arise, get thee into the District of Columbia, and cause to be engraved many likenesses both of Abraham and of Washington.

5. And let the likenesses be printed on strong papers about seven inches and a half long and about three inches and a quarter wide. And let there be engraved also and printed on the papers figures and marks, and the letters and signs and symbols, so that no man can make any thing like unto them. And let these papers be printed with green ink, and let them be called greenbacks.

6. And whosoever refuseth to take the greenbacks for payment of debt or to acknowledge their value, let him be unto you an outcast and a traitor. And when Greenspan ceased speaking, the wise men and elders counseled together, even the wise men of the mighty Sanhedrim, and resolved that it should be as Greenspan had dreamed.

7. Now when the greenbacks were scattered to the East and to the West, and to the North and to the South, and came into the hands of any man who would labor, that he might buy food and raiment. So ran the rich streams of wealth through the Nation, giving new life to business and new zest to pleasure. For cities grew and waxed very great, and the land was overflowing with fatness.

8. And the people said, surely we are living in prosperity and the bubble will never burst. Sing, Oh ye people ! and let not the voice of thanksgiving be withheld, for great is the prosperity of the nation, and mighty is the power of the clowns thereof.
