Mary, You should know better than the silliness you wrote in your note. All you have to do is read the thread today and hear everyone celebrating huge profits on longs like GZTC and MEDX and GZTR to know that you are playing a tune with no beat and lousy lyrics. <g>

Best,

MB

Mary, I couldn't have said it better...

I doubt very much that customers of any brokerage house gets as much information from their analysts as we get here from the collective contributions of all those who post here.

It is pretty much like the philosophy behind the Linux OS. The Linux OS program code is in the public domain and rely on the contributions of programmers contributing their efforts toward enhancing the OS for free. Microsoft could never hire enough programmers to compete with a program that is developed in the public domain.

In the same way, no brokerage house can spend enough money doing proprietary research to compete with the public domain research that is conducted on these threads.

You made your point quite effectively. Regards, dmf

Hi Mary,

Very good post and analogy. Many good points.

RE: publishing

Brandname is still pretty powerful. But what you say is so true. There are many excellent analysts, but an analyst has so many stocks to follow, how can one person spread across many companies cover as much as what an entire group covers on one? I've greatly reduced the number of company specific SNP Reports I have purchased since I started reading SI.

RE: Linux, MS

I wonder if an architectural line could be drawn (wild speculation) between open and closed?
