I too will say thanks for the technical discussion. It is the stuff that makes SI so good.

I am a CS major at Cornell. When I took my hardware design class last spring both my teachers and my TAs were wishing that someone would come along and offer a VLWI solution to get over the obvious limitations of the x86 chips. Well here it is, and brilliantly delivered.

Transmeta's stock price will receive a premium for their hype and their "first to the market place". However, I think the best way to invest in this technology will be to invest in transmeta's partners (IBM and the likes). My guess is that TM will have a huge IPO (on the order of 10 billion to hazard a guess) then will fly for a couple of months.

You can be sure that Intel is now looking though their files of canned projects and will find a VLWI processor. My guess is they will be to the market in 6-8 months with a low Wattage chip running at 800 mhz with a 166 sleep mode. So maybe the best investment plan is to wait till intel hits 70 and buy INTC to enjoy the runup when they announce their chip.

MSFT will be the big loser in this game unless they can really move quickly. As a developer, there is not much reason to go to Windows CE. It doesn't have the feel of a product that will be the only thing on the market.
