Yes, Frank, for a company (Intel) that has legally gained a monopoly postion within its market (CPUs) and gains over 5 billion dollars of PROFIT from this market each year....I do expect that they will lead innovations, and that no companies can legitimately claim a lead in any significant category such as battery life for portable computing solutions.

Intel believes itself to be the PC building block supplier, while they should see themselves as the CPU vendor of all potential applications.

Nevertheless it is a capacity question as well, for many years Intel could only build the high margin chips.

In the end the biggest advantage Intel hold is its capacity lead, but with 300MM wafers even that could see a shift. And no, Intel is not going to fall off a cliff or anything.
