INDUSTRY MOMENTUM GROWS RAPIDLY AS SYSTEM I/O ANNOUNCES
NEW NAME AND 8 NEW SPONSORING MEMBERS

New InfiniBandSM Trade Association Holds Industry Kick-Off Event

SAN FRANCISCO, OCT. 27, 1999 - The newly named InfiniBandSM Trade
Association, a new switched-fabric input/output (I/O) connectivity standards
group formerly known as System I/O, is announcing the addition of eight
sponsoring member companies at its kick-off event today in San Francisco.
The new sponsoring member companies being announced include 3Com,
Adaptec, Cisco, Fujitsu-Siemens, Hitachi, Lucent, NEC and Nortel Networks.

The new organization is led by seven steering companies: Compaq, Dell,
Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, and Sun Microsystems. In addition,
seven special workgroups, each with its own charter, area of expertise, and
responsibilities related to the specification development process report
directly to the Steering Committee. The workgroups include: Marketing,
Technical, Applications, ElectroMechanical, Link, Management and Software.

Industry support has been growing rapidly with more than 140 companies
scheduled to attend the event. These companies represent the industry's
leading technology companies from components vendors to software,
systems, storage, and networking vendors.

In addition to the steering companies, there are two levels of membership:
Member and Sponsoring Member. Companies can join the organization as a
Member company by signing the membership agreement and paying an annual
fee ($9500) that is the primary source of the non-profit corporation's
support. This entitles them to review the specification, provide input,
participate in events, and vote on major Trade Association issues. Further
details will be discussed at the event and are available at
www.infinibandta.org.

InfiniBandTM Specification Delivery

InfiniBandSM Trade Association expects to deliver a comprehensive draft
specification, suitable for starting early product development, by the end of
1999. A final released specification is targeted for early 2000. Initial products
based on the specification are expected to be in production in 2001.

InfiniBandSM Trade Association

The Internet is creating an increased demand for server computer I/O
subsystem performance, scalability, reliability and flexibility. An industry-wide
shift to a fabric-based I/O architecture will be required. The InfiniBandSM
Trade Association is developing an industry specification for a channel-based,
switched fabric architecture that provides a scalable performance range of
500MB/s to 6GB/s per link, meeting the needs from entry level to high-end
enterprise systems. With wide support from the computing industry's leading
companies, InfiniBandSM Trade Association truly represents the industry's
choice for I/O technologies that will keep pace with the demands of the
Internet age.
