Amy, RE: IBM

What's the latest on their market position?

Sun says IBM is confused, or all over the place. They have several different platforms, which, I suppose can only confuse the customer as well. Sun is now touting their one platform strategy, Solaris, which makes if comparitively simple for their customers. As I pointed out in another post, IBM said they were down in sales of 3 out of their 4 platforms. Y2K may be an excuse for last quarter, but not any more, IMO. I don't know if they need to pare down their # of platforms, or what. They have S390, RS6000, AS400, Netfinity (and PCs) for HW; and MVS, AIX, NT, Linux (what did I miss) for OS. Confusing all right. Maybe Monterey Unix on Itanium will be all they need for the big stuff down the road, hopefully for us Intel stockholders.
