Dan, thanks for your insights on retailers. I own CLE and ZANY, and consider both of them as strong value plays at current prices. Technically a no go, but both will be announcing earnings through December 31 soon that should be quite good. I'm willing to be early on them, since I have some other stocks like vlnc and ancr that are giving me plenty of excitement day to day! <g>

Would be interested in your thoughts on ZANY, especially given we have some in the Z!

Dan-

Good post on the retails. Here's another one that has gotton hammered over the past since Dec. SHRP: 10 1/2.

PE: 14
52 low: 8
52 high: 23 1/2
PEG: 0.36

Earnings estimates were raised a week ago from $0.74 to $0.77 per share for this qrt.

Trading below both the 200 and 50 DMA.

Looks dirt cheap right here, getting no attention I guess in an out of favor sector.

Kelvin

Dan, retail

this sector is always seasonal and cyclical

which stock(s) one buys depends on your investment time frame
if for the long term then i think you go with the top dogs
the generals
the gorillas
the Hd's and WMT's etc

for shorter term I'd look for extremely oversold technicals combined with a F/A approach

if the entirre sector is down why not pick the best of the best; those that will be around for years

compare say a RL to a TOM
both beat up
which has more staying power?
whcih is more likely to return to favor?
which has better balance sheet downside protection?

when looking at a down and out sector I think it is often better to do a basket of say 3 to 5 stocks
rather than go whole hog in just one
gives a bit of protection from picking the wrong one

HOTT (Hot Topic) Dan could you take a look at this one..been slumping, SSS where great as were CHCS (Chico's)
specialty retail looks way oversold but there still could be more downside till base is reached. Then a move up before earnings? I hope!

Thanks
