You're getting ripped off if you have to pay to stay hooked up. Just got my latest bill yesterday: $17. Probably up because I've been running my computers a lot lately.

I do admit that I usually buy the most energy efficient appliances. They tend to pay for themselves much quicker in the energy savings. I recently replaced a perfectly good refrigerator that was 15 years old after measuring it's energy consumption. The energy savings will pay for the new fridge in 3 years. In other words The new fridge is free in three years, and is a money making/saving asset after that. Same thing with a new blower motor for the furnace
