There was a snipped on BloombergTV just now. One of the Ziff-Davis affiliates did a test to see how long it would take to get tech support for one of their lower-end home PC offerings. They tested Gateway, Compaq, and Dell. Here were the hold-times they mentioned:

Gateway: 30 minutes
Compaq: 45 minutes
Dell: 1 hour 15 minutes

They said after Dell finally picked up, the tech couldn't answer a question about their EasyPC, and were put on hold an additional 35 minutes, at which point the tester hung up.
