It is one thing to be conservative but the sandbagging in Q4 was a bit overdone. And looks like that is now dragging into Q1.

IMHO, the sandbagging in Q4 was done for a different reason - they were and still are in a precarious position and at Intel's mercy. What all it would have taken for Intel was just one or two weeks to make AMD miss their numbers, if AMD had guided Analysts anywhere close to the actual earnings.

I strongly believe that they themselves were not sure of the final numbers until the quarter ended. AMD had many unexpected breaks(thanks to Intel) in Q4. Only thing they were sure of attaining was break even.

I know it doesn't (management of the blow out numbers) do good to shareholders in the short term, but it's the only way AMD could do the business until the Athlon system infrastructure is strong, and until they are out of the current vulnerable position.
