An observation on marketing....

Couldn't help noticing from this morning's ads that while Intel has successfully positioned its inferior-for-business-use Celeron above the K6 in the business market (so far), AMD seems to have returned the favor with its inferior-for-gaming-use K6 in the consumer market:

Best Buy AD:
(All prices "feature" price after rebates)

Celeron 466 - FREE
Celeron 466 - $149
Celeron 533 - $429
Celeron 500 - $479
Pentium3 500 - $599
K6-II 533 - $749
K6-II 533 - $1099
Pentium3 550 - $1399
Pentium3 600 - $1179
Athlon 700 - $1779
Pentium3 650 - $1799

AMD is being a lot more careful with its premium brand than Intel is. It's probably costing them some short term sales, but IMHO it's a good investment. Intel continues to demonstrate "nobody home" in marketing management.
