Joe,

I don't know where iNtEL and AMD are going.
You've seen the prices on AMD processors, I think a 700 was $200
less than a P3.

iNtEL has a "supply" problem, or demand exceeded supply, whatever.
AMD has picked up Gateway and HP selling Athlons.
Gateway warned on shortfall of earnings, and Niles mentioned he believed DELL would warn.

Several scenarios are possible. All of which have been beaten to death around here.

Questions of mine would be:
1) does AMD still have a surplus of Athlons laying on Jerry's desk?
2) does iNtEL have a "high-end" (750/800) yield problem?
3) will iNtEL have whatever problem they have, fixed in Q1?
4) at these prices, is AMD making money? (they have excellent yields as mentioned in the conference calls)
5) and iNtEL can't afford to participate?
6) will iNtEL phantom product launches continue? (over a month and
no 750/800 on Pricewatch)

I've come to the conclusion iNtEL doesn't have enough 750/800 product to fight a war with,
(based upon the DELL waiting times on a system, Gateway and HP)
and they are hoping a solution to their problems will be found by the end of Q1.
Sounds like a prayer to me.

Or did iNtEL find a fix for their yield problem, and it will take the next
two months for the "new" product to arrive? Gonna be a long wait for DELL.

fwiw

Lock and load.
