Slacker,

<< I think we need to settle on some terminology between the Q and Nokia investors.... >>

You and I disagree on one point here, but we are not the only ones to do so.

<< W-CDMA - CDMA air interface GSM/MAP Network....I count this as a CDMA sub (3G) >>

I think that UTMS with UTRA (UMTS/IMT-2000 networks) will be counted as a UMTS/IMT-2000 sub. These could I suppose be broken down into separate classifications of subs (ETSI, ARIB, etc.) I am of the opinion that cdma2000 subs will be tracked separately.

I am waiting to see how the major research firms treat this as they forecast out subs for the future. We should start to get a flavor for this shortly and certainly by this time next year we'll have a better handle on it.

As in long term investor in Qualcomm I am in agreement with you that based on Q IPR in the cdma air interface that Qualcomm will enjoy a revenue stream from all 3G implementations. Nokia and ERICY and others will probably enjoy a revenue stream from IPR in at least the W-CDMA networks that evolve from GSM.

<< be thankful that this board has never gone to the level of the original Q board >>

Amen! The combination of this board and the "The New Qualcomm - a S&P500 company" board provide a very good means of keeping track of and sorting out the particulars of the sometimes confusing (at least to me) evolution of digital wireless mobile telephony from 2G into 2.5G and on to 3G.
