Elder's "Trading For A Living" is a good starting book. I haven't read "TA Plain & Simple", so I can't comment on it. For some just starting out with no knowledge at all I would personally would suggests Martin Pring's Introduction to Technical Analysis. A fairly cheap book with a work along CD. Pring has a good way of explaining the very basics of TA in an easy to understand way. I would then pick up Murphy's book next then move onto the really juicy stuff. Elder's book is more of a trading Psych. book then a TA book... but a great book none the less.

Best Regards
