There is a reasonable possibility that it will do 2 other things. One, it will cause it to run up more, as investors confidence increases, based on the assumption that management would not do this unless they too had confidence in the outlook for the company.
And two, when it splits (even though this is silly) some people will jump in, now that the stock is cheaper. I have explained this to people who don't buy stocks, and most of them tell me they would rather buy it after it splits because it will be cheaper, go figure. Maybe I just don't explain things clearly.
