OT furniture.com and restorationhardware.com: Since my original post to Ganesh, I've checked out both these too. furniture.com has a MUCH wider selection than any of the others. You can sort by all sorts of criteria, such as type of wood or furniture style. So, for example, if you want to do the place in Mission/Arts & Crafts maple, you select those two criteria and voila!

Now the question becomes one of quality/fulfillment/shipment, etc. furniture.com is a retailer for hundreds of manufacturers, so my luck will probably vary in this regard. The nice thing about the other places is that you know what you can expect based on the Bricks & Mortar store's reputation and what you've seen in those offline stores.

If I find exactly what I want at these other stores, (e.g. floor and desk lamps at Restoration Hardware), I'll go with them. Otherwise, I'll probably chance it with furniture.com. After all, this is not a primary residence, so imperfection is not an unforgiveable sin.

Thanks Ganesh and Libby for the feedback.
