FCL has a pilot plant in California since 1996

The pilot plant was disassembled several years ago. The pending contract with Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is for a fuel cell that incorporates changes based on what was learned in the pilot plant. FCL has an operational fuel cell that runs their Connecticut plant and feeds the grid. The major issues have been addressed. It has been in operation for a year. The 20+/- year development stage of this fuel cell has now moved to an implementation stage.

I agree Solid Oxide fuel cells have good potential for large utility applications. Both will probably be used. The MCFCs have been tested and FCL is now gearing up for production. SOFC is still in the future. FCL is a pure play on MCFC...GE is not much of a fuel cell play due to its diversity. To the best of my knowledge Siemens is not available to me as an investor at least on any of the US exchanges..please correct me if I am wrong.

Another use of electrical grid, this should be bad news for communications providers...
