AOL's a stepchild at best. (Which probably accounts for their success.)

breeding children?

Don't know, but remember for a while their John Doerr's fav. children were pen-based computing companies. He also gave countless speeches on Al Gore's information superhighway.

On balance, I respect KPCB a lot, and look hard at their deals when they come public. IMO the good venture firms are like good college basketball programs: their past success helps them recruit the best new talent, and inevitably gives them an edge in the polls (read: initial valuations, underwriters). At the end of the day, however, they have to deliver. The whole keiretsu thing is, at best, a distraction. (I'm talking longer term here; I'm glad you and some others on the thread have made some $$ as KPCB deals have almost indiscriminately ramped.)
