Hi George,

On of the costs that they don't mention in these articles is the costs to administer the same number of disks on a SAN as opposed to NAS. But all the projections I see out into the future has it 50:50. I suspect they are not including hybrids like you see at the U of Mn GFS project.

I haven't checked the UM GFS project lately. I should do that when I have time and I'll update the thread on what I find.

Regarding the projections, I'm not sure if those also take into consideration the way that IBM and EMC are using NUMA memory architecture to future-proof storage so that current SAN deployments will always have the ability to turn any revolutionary NAS development into cost-effective evolutionary paths for their customers. IBM's aggressive pricing strategy is interesting, but what I'm looking for now is information that will shed more light on how EMC plans to use Clariion to go after the middle market. Right now, I am starting off with the guess that NTAP's caching product will be leapfrogged by a combination of a NUMA-based derivative and software.

Regards,

Gus

P.S. Guys, I just want to let you know I have learned a lot from this board which is hands down one of the most civil and profitable board known to man.
