Cisco Designing With Hi/fn Security
Processors

LOS GATOS, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Network security specialist Hi/fn, Inc. (Nasdaq:
HIFN - news), today announced that Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO - news) is designing
multiple Hi/fn encryption and compression processors into a range of different products.

``We are delighted that Cisco has selected not just one, but multiple Hi/fn security products to
provide compression and encryption across various Cisco platforms,' says Raymond Farnham,
Hi/fn chairman and CEO. ``We believe that Cisco's decision to use different Hi/fn products
validates our approach to dealing with networking security issues, which consists of providing
performance and price appropriate to the application, in a broad range of networking products.'

Hi/fn is best known for its high-performance compression and encryption processors used in
Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). This includes the world's fastest encryption processor for the
most commonly used data encryption standard, 3-DES. Earlier this month Hi/fn introduced a
complementary device whose features, performance and cost are appropriate to the DSL and
cable modem markets.

Hi/fn anticipates that revenues will not be materially impacted during fiscal year 2000 by the
current new platform developments at Cisco. Hi/fn's fiscal year ends September 30th.
