Cool. I think you've illuminated what I was grasping at, that once the "pure" stream of light goes through translation, it gets changed. My mental image is transmission along nerves - the pure transmission of energy gets re-amplified every so often because it degrades, but it's still the same signal, until it gets to the end, and has to jump from one axon to the next, and then it gets translated, but that's ok because unless it's translated, it's meaningless. Similarly, a beam of light doesn't "mean" anything. OK, I have other questions, but I have to think about them. Thanks for the help.
