PairGain and CopperCom to Demonstrate Robust and Scalable Voice over DSL Solution at Comnet Booth No. 428
Business Wire - January 24, 2000 07:23
WASHINGTON, D.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 2000--

Integration Between CopperComplete DSL and
Avidia System Enables Carriers to Reap Cost Savings
of Voice over DSL for Bundled Voice and Data Services
CopperCom(TM), a Silicon Valley company that is Giving Voice to DSL(TM), and PairGain(R) Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:PAIR), The Power Behind DSL Access(TM), today announced that they will demonstrate an end-to-end Voice over DSL solution using CopperComplete DSL and the Avidia(R) System next-generation DSL access switch at Comnet booth No. 428, January 25-27.

This demonstration will highlight the robustness, scalability and Quality of Service (QoS) of the integrated CopperCom/PairGain solution, which enables delivery of 16 voice lines and high-speed data over a single copper pair in the local loop. With this Voice over DSL solution, service providers -- including ILECs (Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers) and CLECs (Competitive Local Exchange Carriers) -- can profitably meet the growing demands of small businesses and upscale residences. Economically, it offers savings up to five times over existing voice delivery solutions.

"CopperCom's technical expertise and quality products deliver the performance and reliability that our customers expect," said Kevin Woods, PairGain's director of marketing. "We are pleased to be demonstrating a joint Voice over DSL solution with CopperCom because they understand the key carrier requirements, including ease of provisioning, robust quality of service guarantees, and management of converged voice and data services."

According to Stefan Knight, CopperCom's director of product marketing, "PairGain's Avidia System is particularly well-suited to meet the growing demand for Voice over DSL solutions because it provides traffic management and end-to-end QoS. Our joint demonstration highlights these important requirements as well as the robustness and scalability that our customers need."

The ComNet demo consists of a CopperCom MXR connecting into the PairGain Avidia integrated DSL access switch. Two or more phones will be connected to the MXR. From the Avidia system, an ATM-based DS-3 will be connected to the CopperCom Gateway with one or two GR-303 DS-1s connecting to the public telephone network. The demo will highlight the ways in which CopperCom and Avidia can facilitate Voice over DSL through the use of QoS.

Avidia System

The Avidia(R)System is a next-generation DSL access switch that enables CLECs and ILECs worldwide to deploy advanced data services, such as voice over DSL (VoDSL), virtual private networks (VPNs), business Internet access and video on demand. Avidia's architecture supports frame and cell switching over G.lite, ADSL, SDSL, HDSL2, IDSL and DS-1 interfaces. Avidia is NEBS level 3 compliant and has also demonstrated interoperability with a variety of G.lite modems and VoDSL integrated access devices.

CopperComplete DSL

CopperComplete DSL(TM) enables delivery of 16 voice lines and high-speed data over a single copper pair in the local loop. It is the only Voice over DSL solution in the market that provides true toll-quality voice in either PCM or 32K ADPCM with support for echo cancellation, ensuring that customers receive the same voice quality over DSL that they receive with their local telephone service. The CopperComplete DSL architecture consists of two products, the CopperCom MXR for the customer premises, and the CopperCom Gateway, a device which sits between the DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) and a Class 5 Switch at the service provider's Central Office or Regional Switching Center. A third element is CopperCommander, the Service Management Platform for CopperComplete DSL. The CopperComplete DSL architecture features true telephony(TM), seamless integration, flexibility and efficiency, ease of provisioning and management, and 99.999% reliability.

Sound familiar? max

WSTL sold some property awhile back...

Now what was the stock price before and after that business decision?

can't remember exactly, but it looks fine now and it should for PAIR too, down the road. I just don't know if what they are doing is too late for the market. Mkt wants to value DSL here but they have nothing to show yet, I hope they restate their earnings to show DSL revs. (when they get 'em) so analysts can reevaluate that biz separate.
