AMD wins $400 mln supply contract with Samsung

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan 24 (Reuters) - Computer chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. <AMD.N> said on Monday
it won a contract worth $400 million over three years to supply Samsung Electronic Co. Ltd.'s <05930.KS> wireless
terminal division with its flash memory chips.

The agreement, which began Jan. 1, is expected to support increased demand in cellular phone handsets using code division
multiple access (CDMA) technology.

"By aligning our strength in flash memory products with Samsung WTD's CDMAccess cellular phone handset leadership,
AMD can participate in a cellular phone standard which we believe is being adopted worldwide," said Walid Maghribi, group
vice president of AMD's Memory Group.

AMD closed at 36-5/8 on Friday on the New York Stock Exchange.

Finnish mobile phone operators are dissatisfied with the new WAP-phones. They are
not available, and they do not work properly, complain among others the leaders of
Sonera and Radiolinja, according to Finnish daily business and financial newspaper
