Elan is an interesting stock. Go take a good look at what they own. I'd say they're partially a biotech VC company :-) They've taken stakes in a number of smaller companies. In some cases, they've bought out companies.

Note that they own at least 17% of Ligand. Note also that in todays baby-correction, Elan held up quite well. On a TA basis, I think they just turned the corner and you should see some upwards movement now. It could be significant if there's a takeover in the works. They're still small enough to be easily bought by some of the sharks and they've got a portfolio that's worth looking at.

One possible scenario is a buyout of Elan along with a buyout of Ligand..... Could be an interesting deal. Pure speculation of course.
