What Vincent Saw

I've seen
The Scream
lived it too, stark
white mask capturing perfectly
despair born of alienation anxiety born of the Bomb and TV
neither of which were in Munch's world; he saw it all ahead.

I never understood the power
of Jackson Pollock until I stood
in a room where four of his huge paintings
vibrated all around assaulting me with his energy
meticulous messes seething with carefully calculated chaos.

Impressionism
left an impression too
MonetManetDegas, seeing
the world through myopic eyes
delicately brushing canvas with mist.

But what Vincent saw
brought me to my knees.

Firstly
his brush
so strong, fluid and thick
like the paint has not yet dried
though a hundred years old, still fresh.

And his passion
for movement, grass
in the field, butterflies
fluttering: he was so overwhelmed
by the world, so stung by its' beauty.

Snug little houses
everyone safe within
and in the stars above, Vincent
could see the yellow and red hearts
burning, all the way through the galaxy.

Starry Night
transfixed me
made me weep freely
made me see Vincent's
stars through the prism of my tears.

To be lifted up....
remembering is the most painful work,
now to paint it upon a white canvas;
to scared to brush,
Your masterpiece awaits......
