Trust me on this...if you're a business person and a reading task can be reduced from hours to halves of hours, you won't miss the paper.

OK, Lady. Let's let our minds wander here.

Take that e-book that is available now and fast forward 2 years. Here is what you could have:

-e-book supports HTLM, so now published text can have URLs built in.

-e-book supports reader notation feature, maybe with Palm-type handwriting recognition + highlighting.

-e-book supports reader creation of hyper linking from text you are reading to other text stored in the book, on the web, or in your PC.

-e-book supports wireless comm for internet connection and LAN connection between book and your PC.

I could go on, and all of this stuff is feasible right NOW!

mtnlady,

<My only problem is highlighting and notations.. I love to make a 'mess' of whatever I am reading with highlights and notes.. Guess they will have to add these features :-)>

Highlighter and pen in hand, that about describes how I read, too. It seems Rocket Books has considered this phenomenon, and plans to offer handwriting recognition software as one potential solution.

Fonix Licenses Allegro Product to NuvoMedia

Fonix handwriting recognition software available
in Rocket eBook

SALT LAKE CITY -- Nov. 23, 1999 -- FonixTM Corporation (NASDAQ: FONX) today announced that it has licensed its AllegroTM handwriting recognition software to NuvoMedia, Inc. for use in current and future versions of the highly successful Rocket eBookTM. The Allegro technology allows users to employ handwriting inputs for searching the book contents and easily adding their own notes or annotations.

The five-year license agreement provides a per unit royalty payment to Fonix with a guaranteed minimum first year royalty.

"We are always looking for ways to enhance our products according to user needs. The addition of Fonix Allegro to the Rocket eBook allows us to provide our users a natural and easy way to enter notes and annotations to their books. That is of definite value to our customers," said Martin F. Eberhard, cofounder and CEO of NuvoMedia.

Fonix handwriting recognition technology demonstrates an extremely high degree of recognition accuracy and has low memory overhead. The Allegro single character system is noteworthy for the natural appearance of its alphabet, requiring users adapt to only a few characters making it easy to learn and use. Unlike other handwriting recognition technology, Allegro does not require users to memorize a new alphabet. Allegro supports punctuation, digits, symbols and most international characters. Handwritten input is private and allows the user to listen or converse while taking notes.

"This is an excellent example of Fonix technology allowing easy and natural interaction with a hand-held device," commented Thomas A. Murdock, president and CEO of Fonix. "The Rocket eBook is one of the industries leading electronic books and Fonix is pleased to be working with NuvoMedia."

mtnlady, I would love to lay back in my bed and download a book (complete with soundtrack) on my PCTV, clicking-off page by page on my TV screen, while the book's soundtrack music plays in the background -- and when I fall asleep, the TV screen becomes a 'night light' (after not clicking-off another page within a certain length of time) -- or, have the option of downloading the book, complete with narration and soundtrack, so I can listen to it, instead of reading it -- rather than the tedious job of holding a book, turning the pages, finding an appropriate CD, eventually becoming uncomfortable, falling asleep with the book in my hands, etc.

Wishing you well,

dc
