The one thing that always amazed me is how everyone thinks that "Sir" Edmund Hillary is British. In fact, he is a New Zealander. But just because he was granted honorary knightship by the Queen after his amazing feat of being the first to summit Mt. Everest (incomplete investigation /research of the Mallory & Irvine expedition notwithstanding) everybody thinks he is British! Imagine that. The reality is that the British guy who was at Everest at the same time as Edmund Hillary was deemed not trustworthy by Hillary. Hillary then looked for someone else to partner with, and partnered with Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, and they successfully summited via the southeast ridge route. It never ceases to amaze me that folks think Hillary is British!
