Is that CS AT&T Enriches its Networking Management Services Offers At ComNet 2000, new capabilities for managing servers, LANs and WANs announced WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T today announced a series of enrichments to its networking management services for local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) that extend to small and medium-sized businesses many benefits that have been limited to the customized networks of large, multinational companies. The new offers, announced in conjunction with the ComNet 2000 tradeshow here this week, are in two categories - networked computing and enterprise networking. AT&T Networked Server Monitoring provides highly reliable, round-the-clock remote monitoring of enterprise servers, including proactive notification of potential problems and outages. This global offer is a cost-effective solution for monitoring the operational status of a company's mission-critical servers and the applications they support. The offer provides proactive monitoring of baseline metrics and thresholds, as well as event notification that can be directed to client contacts to fit almost any customer need. Bundled with other AT&T services, this offer provides an effective means to improve information availability across global enterprise networks. AT&T Managed LAN Utility allows businesses to buy comprehensive LAN services by the port with ``pay-as-you-go' pricing based on the number of LAN ports they actually use. The per-port pricing structure includes LAN hardware, maintenance, asset buy-back, proactive fault management, design and implementation. In addition, AT&T refreshes technology and provides network enhancements on a proactive, ongoing basis, determined by a client's chosen level of service performance or its growth. All of the LAN services at a single monthly price per port provide ``utility-like' functionality and reliability. Clients benefit from predictable cost and service levels and can move their fixed, capital intensive cost to a variable expense stream. Mark Fabbi, vice president and research director of the Gartner Group, said: ``We see the technical complexity in LANs continuing to increase, and the market for LAN utility services will expand significantly in the next two years as organizations look to ensure the service levels required for business critical applications.' AT&T Managed LAN Utility is offered in conjunction with hardware and software from a number of vendors. Cabletron Systems is the first to support the offer through a comprehensive support solution consisting of architecture assessment and design, and other capabilities. Earle Humphreys, executive vice president and general manager of Cabletron's Global Network Technology Services said: ``With increasing reliance on networks and demands on resources, customers often have difficulty finding solutions that effectively meet their stringent business requirements. With AT&T's new Managed LAN Utility offer, Cabletron and AT&T are collaborating to offer an innovative, end-to-end solution focused on the ownership and management of multi-vendor networks -- all for a fixed monthly charge.'
